A professional-cleaning appointment is easier to discuss when the outfit arrives with clear information. The cleaner needs to understand the actual garment, the concern you noticed and any treatment already attempted. You do not need to diagnose the mark or prescribe a cleaning process yourself.
Prepare a short handover note before leaving home. Keep it factual and separate what you know from what you are unsure about.
Identify every piece being handed over
List the shirt, trousers, dupatta, slip and removable details you intend to leave. Check whether the cleaner wants detachable items supplied, removed or discussed first. Do not assume that every accessory shown in your outfit photograph belongs in the cleaning order.
Take a photograph of the components together. It provides a simple reference for checking the collection later, especially when a set has several similar-coloured layers.
Bring the care information
Keep the garment labels accessible and bring readable photographs if useful. If different components have different instructions, identify them separately. Tell the cleaner if a lining, trim or other material has been added after purchase.
Where instructions are missing or contradictory, say so. Do not substitute an internet rule for the absent information or present a guess about fibre content as a confirmed specification.
Describe marks and changes precisely
State the location, when you noticed the issue and anything you know about the circumstances. “A mark near the right cuff noticed after dinner” is a useful starting point even when you cannot identify its cause.
If you applied any product or treatment, explain what it was and when. Bring the product information if available. Omitting an unsuccessful attempt makes the history less clear.
Use a sample handover note
For a hypothetical outfit, write: “Three pieces: plum shirt, trousers and dupatta. Mark near right cuff. No home treatment attempted. Loose closure at back neckline needs assessment. Care labels photographed.”
This note separates a cleaning concern from a repair concern. Ask whether the cleaner can assess both or whether the fastening needs attention from someone else. Do not assume cleaning will correct a loose attachment.
Agree the process before leaving
- Confirm which items and accessories are being accepted.
- Point out the areas you want assessed.
- Ask how uncertainties will be discussed before treatment.
- Record the quote and expected collection date.
- Keep the receipt connected to your outfit record.
A deadline should reflect when you actually need the clothes, including any travel or final checks. Tell the cleaner about that date without assuming it guarantees a particular turnaround.
On collection, use the same component list and photographs to inspect the outfit. Ask about the result and any recommended follow-up. A well-prepared handover does not promise that every mark can be removed; it makes the conversation and the agreed work clearer from the start.
For the next step, read building a care-label record and separating repair and cleaning questions.
Request care information before choosing a piece from the luxury pret collection, especially for an upcoming occasion.
